Girls Who Game
UNCG Esports is working with Dell Technology’s Girls Who Game program, Girls Who Game “provides an opportunity for underserved students across North America to learn about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through gaming. The players learn such skills as computational and critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. The players are empowered to become leaders in STEM related fields.”
UNCG Esports launched a chapter of Girls Who Game in Spring 2024, working closely with Guilford County Schools through UNCG’s Institute for Partnerships in Education (IPIE). Members of the UNCG Gaming and Esports Club will act as mentors. Six schools participated in Spring of 2024, with hopefully more to come in Fall of 2024.

Jon Henner Memorial: Accessibility in Games SPeaker Series
Dr. Jon Henner, who was a Deaf professor at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a respected researcher on linguistics and deaf education, passed away on August 14 after a six-year battle with cancer. He was 40. Before Jon passed, he had plans to bring accessibility in games professionals to our campus to talk to students about their work. This was an area he was passionate about as a gamer himself. The Network for the Cultural Study of Videogaming has received his family’s blessing to continue his work around gaming and accessibility. To do this, we are conducting a year-long speaker series with a Game Jam.
Stay tuned for the next event!
Welcome arcade
Every semester, we welcome all students into the Esports Arena for an open house with prizes! We recognize that the space might be intimidating at first glance to a first-time visitor. UNCG Esports wants to make sure people know that the Arena is a safe space for them. In Fall of 2024, we turned the Esports Arena into an actual arcade where students could receive raffle tickets for completing tasks around the arena – such as talking to a faculty member, or playing games. The penultimate prize was a gaming PC!

Varsity Esports and Stem League
UNCG is a proud partner of the Varsity Esports and STEM League (VESL). The Esports Arena has hosted multiple regional tournaments for students across North Carolina.
